Question Engine transplant...HELP!

Hey.. I'm very ignorant about Rx7 yet I'm thinking of buying an '88-91' turbo engine for my '86 GXL and I have no idea which year, if any, would drop right into the car without changing the transmission? I have a new clutch already installed w/ zero miles on it and if possible I wanna keep it. Also, about how much would this project cost and how hard would the swap be? Do I also need to change/upgrade anything else? Thanks a lot!

ps.
Does anybody know where the best place to get an engine?

Do a search for info. The engine can be had at either www.corksport.com or www.fc3s.org. The fc3s.org comes w/ clutch and flywheel, Corksport ones do not.

Look, if you don't know much about RX-7s, then I agree with Kahren, sell the GXL and buy a T2. I know you don't like that idea, but you're talking about basically gutting two cars to build one. Get a T2, drop a fresh engine in there, and be happy.

What PaulC said. It isn't worth it unless it's a 'vert, trust me!

HOLD UP

Why are you concerned about putting a turbo in your n/a when your sig says you already have a TII?

I have an '88 TII but I also wanna fix up my GXL for fun.. I figured, it would be nice to do it as a hobby when the weather gets a bit warmer..

Hmm... if you want a real fun car... just drop a V8 in there TII's are over rated IMHO

If you don't know much about 7s I wouldn't recomend trying to do the swap. Also you'll want to get the TII tranny, driveline, ect. Mazda made them different for a reason; your NA drivetrane won't hold up to the power of the TII engine. But like everyone else was saying, it might be easier to just sell the GXL, and buy a TII.
