Engine toast?

I am in the middle of painting the car. Was going to put the remainder of the color on today, when i went to start it blub blub blub.....nothing.

The past 5 days going in and out of the garage.. prepping the car...it has been hard to start. It is really weak and i have to give it gas to keep it alive..then at about 4500 rpms the car comes alive again and acts normal.

I added about half a gallon-3/4s of coolant the past 5 days.

1st instinct is coolant seal. But today i looked under the car and it was leaking what smelled like gas but had the consistancy of antifreze.

I havent checked compression yet, because the body kit is primed and blocking the way of a jack in the garage and it is raining. (dont want to mix grease jobs with clean paint jobs)

I need to clear my head in order to work on the car...i am really frustrated (like swapping a single cam honda motor in and driving it off a cliff just so it can die as a honda.... pissed) and have to wait a little while because i will break something.

When i am ready to work on it, compression will be tested and leak will be diagnosed.

WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE, AND WHAT ELSE SHOULD I LOOK OUT FOR? (not yelling, just creating a difference in text so people know where the question is, i guess i could have used bold or a different color..too late now )

chime in with ideas please, school is starting in 1 week (taking 21 credits) Plus grandpas olds is outside which kills me.

next time you start it fill the antifreeze and take the fill cap off when it it running. If it bubbles your coolant seal is toast

Blowing a coolant seal will not result in the coolant leaking out of the block. The coolant becomes pressurized and seeps into combustion chamber. This also over pressurizes the coolant system and can lead to leaks elsewhere, and spilling over of the overflow bottle. Your exhaust will also take on a sweet smell.

You probably know this already but that was my experience with a blown coolant seal.

Thanks for the help guys.

Still lack the motivation to even go into the garage.

No money for a rebuild now and i fear the worst. I think i have multiple issues.

Yeah 21 credits....trying to get the hell out of school...lol.

mustered up the courage to do some quick diagnosis on el **** brick today, turn the key and the coolant bubbles like boiling water..****.

Gonna be down all winter i guess.

Plan on porting and rebuilding my 6 port engine, swapping front cover from turbo engine along with sensors, lim and uim..etc. Japan2la block to lim adaptor will also be handy...

Time to dive heavy into researching 6port turbos.

aaroncake, warm up your pm box...lol

6 port turbo's are easy. I have pictures of the main things to do in my album. It's all random but you get the picture.

Car is an s4 se, that i swapped a jspec s4 turbo engine into 2 years ago.

The original 6 port ran fine...no warpage etc..which i still have. I figure it will be an excellent candidate to swap my turbo front cover on and streetport, as well as all of my current turbo engines peripherals, to build a high compression 6 port monster (over the winter).

2slowforstock....your pictures are definately helpful. Thank you. I guess this is the direction i am going now.

In that case what are you going to do with the old TII shortblock?

duo2999: Have a chevy lumina and 1st gen blazer to get me around for the time being, good idea though. Jfpimp91elkland: t2 shortblock is going to be rebuilt when the future 6 port goes .

Is it stupid to rebuild the six port na, or should i just go with the t2 block rebuild?

I kinda want something a little different...i think a high compression streetport turbo with a 60-1 tuned with an rtek 2.1 could be a beast.....

What do people think my best option (doing everything myself..so no labor charge) is?

Thanks in advance.

personally after running a 6 port n/a and a 4 port turbo i would rebuild the 4 port. When i decide what im doing with my vert i know what ever it is will be a 4 port whether it be n/a or TII.

4 port na would be a dog without higher comp na rotors.

To clarify my question (i just read it again), i am curious if i should turbo and streetport my na engine...which i know is good, or if i should rebuild and streetport my existing 4 port turbo engine that is in the car?

Leaning toward rebuilding my original na engine that ran fine, streetporting it, and putting all of my existing turbo peripherals on the future rebuilt streetported sixport na block.

Have until 2 weeks before christmas break to gather all necessary parts.
