engine temp guage is reading cold

so my engine temperature guage is reading cold and my mechanic told me to look under my oil filter to see if the wire was disconnected. well that metal loop thing snapped off, so my question is, how do i remove the little thingy that the loop is on and where can i buy a new loop thing.

The engine temp. sender isn't under the oil filter......

the circled thing is the thing that holds the loop dealie and the arrow is pointing to thewire that should be connected to it

ok how about this, how do i take that circled thing off? it feels like its connected to wires or something
