although thats an FB, its still rotary, shows how long they can last.
Also, the search button is your best friend, there are millions of threads on this. But it all depends on how much $$$$$$ u have.

The only way to tell if a rotary is going to die soon is to test the engine's compression

I had the same problem. I went with a j-spec motor. Some shops were charging me between $2000 - $3500 for a rebuild. The Japan motor cost me $1500 and It's a TII. You'll have to put a little extra money into making the conversion. For me it cost about as much or even less then what I was beig charged for a rebuild. After that, how far you go with it depends on you pocket.

To do the TII swap right it apears to cost much more money! I have far more money into this swap in my shop then a rebuilt motor. You can buy a rebuilt motor from mazda recycling for $1,600 you can buy a seal kit for around $800 if you can do it yourself. With a JDM motor your buying used and someone ellses problems that you have no clue about. Meaning you will be back into the motor sooner and posibly as soon as you buy it. So JDM = be prepaird to posibly have to rebuilt or be back into it much sooner. As well having the maintnence of a T is more costly. You get the motor depending on deal you get you still need a Front mount BOV piping Boost controller a Fule manager FCD wide band boost ccontroller exhoust and so forth to tune it properly other words you are just runing the risk of not knowing and posibly causing very soon posibly detonation! And guarentee on a turbo rebuild on a used T engin.
I am not saying dont do this by any means. Im saying reserch and decide look at your wallet and look at posability if someonething went to the worst do I have the money to do this or my car will be non running and my wallet empty. My reson for doing this swap was I was turbing my NA anyways so y not save a few bucks b/c a turboing NA is costly and just go with the TII. If you are looking for reliability and your on a tite budget buy a rebuilt motor is my opion. Good luck on the reserch there are tons of articals here and on the net to help you decide and know whats involved.
