Engine swap: how hard?

Well I got a TII with a bad engine. How hard would it be to get a Jspec and replace it?

Not hard at all if your starting with a TII already.

Just make surenyou get the same series engine.

If you change series then you have to swap parts and electronics.

Jspecs are pretty much the same as Aspecs.

Yea J-specs aren't too different (these aren't hondas ) so you should be alright. Good luck with the swap!

na.. not hard at all... not if you start w/ a t2 already...

the hardest part is hunting down all the stupid, back-order parts. but you should have them all already.

just replace the gaskets and consumables, which can be acquired from any mazda dealer fairly easily.

you'll have fun.

how much would you think that'd run me? The engine alone takes up all my money!

not much... 10 bucks here... 20 bucks there... as long as you don't have to replace the one's at the exhausts (between block and exh. manifold, between exh. manifold and turbo... etc). stay away from those if you can, they cost A LOT.

oh ya, get yourself some vac lines, and replace them all while you're at it. it'll save you TONS of hours in the future, i gaurantee it. just remember that things are 10X easier to replace when your engine is not in the engine bay. so be patient and take your time and make sure you have done as much as you can while the engine is out.

it's really not hard. if you have done some engine swaps on other cars, you'll find it a breeze. especially if you already have a t2. like i said, the hardest part is finding those damn back-order parts... damn them... i hate them....

screw all that, just get it rebuilt and ported for les than it would cost you to get the jspec, cuz u could get the jspec and still have to rebuild it, UNLESS you are sure what condition it is in and you can get it for less than a grand or so, either way, ur better of with a mild port and rebuild

I'd still go with a rebuild (even if it is the 2nd one...did YOU rebuild the motor or was it rebuilt when you got it?). There isn't really any difference between the 2 motors and it's much more cost effective just to keep the same motor and rebuild it. But...if you really feel that you need something more from the Rising Sun then have fun and take lots of pics .

Atleast your engine swap uses the same motor/ tranny mounts. The only difference would be more sensors and maybe a different computer. I would just buy a TII out of a junk yard. You would have everything
