Question Engine smokes (oil). What to replace during a rebuild?

I have a S4 N/A engine that burns oil. The engine ran very well while it was in the car but it smoked when you got on it. I want to do a poor mans rebuild aka "reuse as many things as possible". I'm just rebuilding the engine for fun and I want to do it without spending lots of money.

Will this solve my oil problem? CLICK ME!!
What parts should I replace?

In theory, all you will need to replace on the rotors are the oil rings. Of course, you will need a complete gasket kit to reassemble the engine.

and it would be just stupid not to change the apex
seals while you are in there, if the oil control rings are
shot then the apex seals are likely close to being finished.
nothing like changing just the oil control rings
and a week later having the apex seals flip out.

well if the apex and other combustion sealing seals are in good condition there is no need to chenge them, you make want to get apexs and side seal springs too, oh yeah you should replace the oil o-ring srings too, I'd buy one of those rebuild videos as they are very insight full

So the oil rings I linked on my previous post are the correct ones I need? Im just rebuilding it for fun thats why I'm not replacing the apex seals UNLESS theyre fubar.

Grocery list:
1. Oil rings
2. gasket set
3. Seal springs?

anything else?

If all the "hard" seals are ok, then you need to replace all the soft seals and o-rings.

o-ring, oil control, inner x4
o-ring, oil control, outer x4
corner seal rubber plugs x12
o-ring, dowel x4
"stat-o-seal", tension bolt x19 (?)
o-ring, rear stat gear x1
o-ring, front cover x1
o-ring, front eccentric shaft bolt x1
o-ring, oil pedestal x2 (not necessary, but since you got the motor out...)
seal, oil, front main x1
seal, oil, rear main x1

I dunno what's included in the gasket set, but I know the front/rear main seals are not.

While everything is apart I would check out all the other parts in the engine for abnormal wear and replace as necessary. I.E. oil pump, clean it real well too so it looks pretty

as much as you can afford

Replace it .. as far as the Dollar will go..

I believe truely believe if you overhaul a engine it is more to it than changing your tire.. and if you don't do it right.. then your welcoming headaches in the future..
