Engine Sealant between housing?

Anyone know what type of sealant can be used on the housings to seal them together. I am talking about the sealant that is used on the lower portion of the housings near the oil pan. I would like the use the permatex super 300 but I can not find it anywhere around me.

Thanks

Pep boys on route 34 and 59 used to carry it. If they don't have in stock, i am sure they can order in one or two days. Otherwise try the napa warehouse in Aurora

Yes, Fox Valley

Dan, doesn't the 3rd gen now call for gray rtv? If so, shouldn't we just use that?

If gray works then I am just going to use that beacuase I have a ton of that stuff around. I was looking at the product info and there was not much difference between gray and black, if anything, the info on the gray looked better to use than black. Though there might be some reason not to use gray that I do not know of.

Always use HYLOMAR to assemble engine parts (except rotor and exhaust). If there are no HYLOMAR available, I'll wait until I can find some. RTV tends to harden even though it claims not to harden and cleaning of hard RTV is a royal pain in the ***. You don't want that in the rotor housing grooves where you need to scrape **all** of it off or else the O rings won't seat itself. HYLOMAR comes off easy with just a rag . It will fill gaps less than .10 of an inch. Ususally 2 tubes are more than enough for engine assembly.
