Question engine rebuilds

hello all, i am going to be getting a rebuilt motor for my 91 non -turbo within the next week and a half or so. I would love to have it done down in san diego, but i just got done with school here in Santa Rosa (an hour or so
north of san francisco) and i was curious if anyone has any input, good or bad, on these two places:

1)Pinneapple Racing (in oregon)
2)Ricks Rotary Performance (pleasonton, CA)

I want to take advantage of the 5yr/60,000 mile warrenty that pinneaple racing provides, and it seems that Ricks Rotary in Pleasonton is the only place with a reasonable price that will install rotary engines that arent from their own desired dealer. Any input would be great.

Also, does anyone here have a street ported 2nd gen engine??? If so can you answer a few questions for me:

1)Is there really a significant or noticable power increase?
2)Have you noticed any problems with your engine as a result of porting?
3)How is gas mileage?
4)Is passing smog an issue? (this is a real big one)
5)Any other helpful info you have on your ported engine would be great.

Thank you all, any help would be great.

-eric

I have a Pineapple Racing Stage II on its way to me right now. What I like best is the fact that Rob uses NEW rotor housings.

so passing california smog is not possible with a ported motor? Does it matter the kind of port, i am not looking for anyhting wild, just a mild street port. If there is no way of passing smog, then i guess it is out of the question to get it ported.

HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCED A FAILED SMOG TEST DUE TO A PORTED ENGINE?? please let me know!!

thanks

I am putting my rebuilt engine in now, done by Pineapple racing, and am pleased with it thus far. I have talked to Rob a couple times when I was ordering it and he was very helpful and knowledgeable about any rotary question.

Also if it makes you feel better, I have heard nothing but good things about Pineapple Racing.

I can let you know about the smog passing in about 3 weeks. I have a stage 2 street port on my 10AE. I have heard mixed opinions of passing smog with a street port. Some people say no way .. others say "no way with the stock ECU" I also have a modified turbo .. so that may add to my emisions also. My plan is I am purchasing a "clean" ECU chip ... very low performance .. weak HP setup chip .. designed to help pass smog. It is costing $295 for the ECU upgrade .. with all my MODS added .. and another $100 for a clean chip I can pop in once every 2 years to pass smog.

Wish me luck .. I hope it works.

good luck on passing. Mine is a non turbo, and the only mod is an intake. No exhaust, no header, no downpipe, no ECU, no nothing. Does this imporve the odds of me passing at all??? Does it make them worse??

I think you'll be find bigfish ... if you are mostly stock aside from intake and engine porting ... you should be fine. And I've also heard that getting a streetport gives you better gas mileage. That's what RP and a few other shops have told me.
