Engine Rebuild vs. Jspec Turbo

I recently bought a Turbo II for $700 and the engine is in need of a rebuild, i was wondering which would be better performance wise, a low mile jspec engine or rebuild the stock 13bt.

different is that one is JDM and one is not

some people think it sounds cool
J-spec engine,
but they are the same...

although i have heard that the stock mount intercooler for the jdm one is a little bigger in size
and says "Rotary Turbo" instead of the "Turbo II"

Although since the rebuild is out I would think you could do alot of the mods to beef it up and increase performance for the same $$ as to getting a J-spec.

I would have a well respected shop rebuild your motor and do some port work while it is out. The rewards will be greater but the bill will be too. Not much different though. Decent street port, better than stock, but not racing, apex seals. everything with perfect clearance. and you can have them do some oil passage work for better cooling and lubing. this will incread the reliability on your motor so you won't have to go through this again for a while. if you get a used j spec, you won't know how well the motor was cared for. If you want something j spec that will add power, get the ECU. this is where most of the added power they have comes from. Or you could have your ECU remapped while your motor is being reborn. Re-mapped is about $300 I think.

I vote with TWEAKED. With the rebuild you KNOW what you have and can have some legitimate faith in the engine.
