engine rebuild/ repair 90 rx7

i have a 1990 rx7 (non-turbo)with 88,000 miles. several years ago i was riding along and it just started running very badly(like hitting on half the cylinders, if it had them). took it to a rx7 specialist and he told me the engine was bad. the car has been sitting since then and i am considering rebuilding the engine. what do y'all think it is and what parts will i need to fix it, where shall i get them and what do you think the cost will be. thanks

The problem will be, that you will most likely need almost all new parts. It was probably an apex seal that went on you (from the description), which may have caused some damage when it went out (assuming it broke). . Most likely that damage will be negligable, compared to the damage caused by rust from sitting so long. That's worse on an engine than anything else.

The only way you'll know what you need, is to crack it open.

Edit: PS - Welcome to the forums.
