Engine problem.. no clue!!! plz help

the car starts fine but the rpms just soar as if i was giving it gas.. i didnt let it get past 4k before i turned it off. i have no idea what this could be indicative of. i just swapped my engine so anything is really a possibility, anything that i should look at specifically that could be causing this? thanks in advance for any info or suggestions you could give.

Throttle cable or throttle plates stuck open.

Leak in manifold at a joining point?!

when i installed the intake manifold, i didnt have the gasket so i used gasket maker.. could this be the source of the problem? i will check the plates and throttle cable also. i was thinking maybe also the tps?

The car is not metering its air or fuel somehow.

You must check the injector seats and the manifold seals. also, did you re-vaccuum hose the car when you removed the vac lines during this procedure or re-use the old ones?

if you did the unless they were REALLY soft hoses and fit SNUGLY without twisting, your screwed.

You have to replace those.

Otherwise, check the Mass airflow sesnor and intake tbing nearby, also make sure that you put on the hoses that attach to the intakt tube the way that they were.

My guess is throttle linkage damage, bending or otherwise stuck open.

all the tubing is intact and in its correct location i know for a fact. is it possible to damage the throttle linkage while swapping an engine? i know it worked fine before.. could a vac leak like the one found by lack of a gasket on the intake manifold produce a problem like this?

Do the throttle plates close? Id suggest looking at that first. And why not use the correct gaskets? They are like 6 bucks.

Didn't someone else just have this problem? I looked, but I couldn't find the thread.

I am having the same exact problem on the 88, and I also used a gasket maker instead of the real gasket. However, when I took the intake manifold off, I found a few things that were not too snug when I swapped engines. I paid $12 for the gasket I need now and if everything works out, I will let you know. I should finish tonight... I hope this is caused due to the intake leak...

Actually I just read your post again and thought I would suggest to let it run to see what happens next. If it shoots over 7000 I would shut it down, but at least then I would have a MUCH better idea of what the problem would be...my problem is that mine won't hold an idle...revs to 4000-5000 and then plummets and dies unless I give it gas. But with each engine I have put in, it always floods before I get it cranked, and when it does start, it revs high for a moment like a cold start...hope this helps...
