I'm trying to get my new engine onto the tranny, I can slide it onto the shaft from the tranny, I can feel it go passed the pressure plate, and i can feel the end hitting the oil seal in front of the pilot bearing..I could also see where the shaft was hitting the oil seal when we took the engine back out and tried adjusting the chains to get it more lined up. so anyways..any suggestion on how to get it to go the last quarter inch? I assume pulling it together with the engine to tranny bots is a bad idea..any suggestions welcomed

Actually, I just pulled it together with the bolts, and its fine. Just make 100% sure its even (same gap between the two all the way around) and slowly tighten the bolts in a criss-crossing pattern.
If someone knows of a reason this is a bad idea, let me know, but it seems like it would be perfectly safe to me.
Also, I jacked up the end of the tranny to line them up, but they still didn't want to get all the way together.

i've had this same problem and as long as the input shaft is placed correctly, seating into the pilot bearing, pulling the engine and trans together with the bolts is ok.

Don't pull it together with the bolts unless you are only looking at an 1/8" gap or so. If it's getting hung up, there's a reason and pulling it together with the bolts could kill the pilot bearing, pilot bearing seal, damage the clutch splines, etc.
It helps to be able to raise the bellhousing of the transmission a little as the engine will be coming in at an angle. And don't attach any part of the engine mounts until the engine is flush against the transmission and held on with at least a bolt or two. People for some reason keep the enigne mounts on which makes it a major pain to line up the engine...
