The engine I was going to use :(

I was debating if I was going to use this engine that came out of my old T2 for my turbovert. I decided not to and went jspec. Good thing because when I opened it I found this.

http://img440.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ustport2xo.jpg

The Exhaust port was white....which means the engine was running lean. The guy I bought it from had a FCD with no fuel mods and a cold air intake. I don't know if you can see it but in the pic the exhaust port running across the water jacket is badly corrided. SP* I think water was getting into the exhaust or vise versa.

Next pic is the intake. I was like WTF is up with that. Is this common or did the previous person JB weld this or what. Its hard as a rock. Do U see what I am talking about.

well the engine had a water cooled turbo...could that be the reason why the turbo failed?

i dont see what all the fuss was about??all looks normal to me, the ehxaust port will be a sort of whiteish colour if the car is running NORMALLY,

the only indicaton of a problem if if the port is black, then it is running tooo rich... or ussually its black when u blow an apex seal , because all the fuel is dumping and not burning properly

as for the intake it looks normal to me also, are you talking about how there is a coolent hole in the intake for the rear iron but not for the front( on the intake) this is normal they are all like that,

they put the hole in the front iron because its cheaper to mass produce them if they are swapable( front and rear) coolent is only needed on the back of hte intake so they dont put a hole in the front!

Umm.. From the pic it looked like they JB welded the open Coolant hole. But after looking at it again, it looks pretty normal. (freaking low res pic).

About normal for a ~100k mile turbo motor.
If it only had 20K - I'd worry.

Do you mean the whitish greasy goop around the exhaust diffuser in the water jacket?

It's the stuff that a good annual cooling system detergent flush will prevent.
Mostly worn out anti-freeze additives.
