Engine component coating

I went down to mazdatrix yesterday afternoon and was talking to Kyle for a little bit about some sort of coating that they can do for your engine parts. I forget all the specifics but later on today i'll call them and find out what its called. Anyway the coating is a grayish color and its supposed to reduce friction and strengthen the parts that you use it on. The guys at Maztrix said that it's really great for apex seals and side seals. Anyway, they said it costs around 1400 dollars to do a whole engine (you know all the parts that cause a lot of friction).

So I just figured I'd let you guys know about this as it sounds like a really good deal. I'll get more details on it later but I just wanted to make the thread before i forgot completely about it.

Ceramic?

--But I've never heard of that reducing friction... Teflon, perhaps... but that seems a little weird to be coating an engine with.

Ok sorry i forgot to post what it was but i found out. Its called WPC treatment and i'll give you the link right here.

http://www.mazdatrix.com/wpc.htm

Man it made me flip when Kyle was telling me about it, he said the results were really good. Its not like the coating that comes on rotors and stuff when their brand new, it actuallly looked to me like some kind of carbon coating. Well whatever your case may be, check it out.

Probably a good thing if it lives up to it's promises, but only if you are building an all out huge HP engine or one used for high RPM racing.

On the street, $1400 seems more then a bit excessive until long term test results are available (years, not just seasons).

Traditionally the ceramic coatings that are hyped around here only live up to that hype until actual results appear. Search for "JHB ceramic" or "cermet" for some past threads...
