engine break in idea to keep boost away

engine break in idea to keep boost away

Would wiring open the wastegate have any ill effects on the running of the engine? the only thing i can see is the impeller itself would act as a restriction.

no...put your cats in and get a silencer for your aftermarket muffler if one is available...restricting the exhaust will restrict spool and make it harder for the turbo to make boost. a completely stock exhaust would be something to go with if you want to restrict boost on a break in.

I am doing the same thing. The guy putting my engine in mentioned wiring the wastegate open when we break it in, so I guess it is something done regularly.

if I swapped my wastegate flapper for the exhaust valve and wired it open would that work for keeping the boost away during an engine break in?

just disengage it from the actuator rod, when it see's any amount of bost it will open, i've been driving around like this for the last 600 miles on my rebuilt motor and i won't boost unless its more than 75 percent throttle in 4th, or at 100% in 2nd and 3rd

yes same here! verry easy to build boost with big turbo and with wastegate unhooked hard to build boost so it is good ... safe way to go!
