Well i walked out side taking a break from the boards and decided my spare rx-7 could use a little wash down, and then i decided id use up the left over soap in the engine bay, and it really didnt change much. then i picked up my trusty wheel cleaner.

So after a washed is down with left over rain-x wash and wax, it looked like this, no battery and no fan shroud.

Then i Sprayed the left over wheel cleaner on a hidden spot to make sure it woudn't strip the paint. waited 20 minutes, and wiped, came clean, paint still good....
So then i spray down everything scrubbed around with a big brush in the main areas and rinsed...
results:

 

I've done this before, it seems to work pretty well

 

certainly half assed, but definitely better than nothing. looks good overall, I just cringe at the thought of spraying anything all over the engine bay....

 

This is the spare car, it will probly sit inthe 90 degree heat for another 5 days before its even cranked again, but i will be doing this on the 10TH AE, in a few day when i get new bottle, look for a post :P i just wanted to show what 10 mins can do, that driver side tower was black before....

 

Be careful of the wheel cleaner on your rubber hoses

 

Go get yourself some engine degreaser. Keep in mind, it will strip the paint of any waxes that you have applied, so don't worry about getting it on your fenders because you'll just be waxing them again eventually...

Spray down the engine bay first.
Go to town with the degreaser.
Let it sit for a minute.
Take a soft bristled brush, preferably on a long handle.
Go to town with the brush. Make sure you get everything! If something is stubborn, spray it with more degreaser and use a stiffer bristled brush better for crevices.
Rinse it all off and enjoy.

I would be careful with some of those wheel cleaners, especially if you have ANY sort of polished aluminum under the hood. It will **** it up!

 

I just use plain old Simple Green and a garden hose..after covering the fuse-box and other electrical stuff.

IMHO never use armor-all ever. if you use it on something once you have to continually use it forever, it's like a moisturizer for plastics but if you stop using it, it causes all sorts of cracking and problems. it's why most of our dashs are damaged.

 

In reality, you really don't have to cover anything. I degrease and power wash my engine bay a lot, and was doing it even more when I was detailing
