Engine Bay Bolts/Nuts

I've been really focusing on restoring my EB to mint status after I removed the Power Steering and A/C.

Any Bolt or Nut, that I am able to get a hold of would be taken out to be cleaned off. I have a drill with a brass wire brush wheel hooked up together. I'd give the Bolts and Nuts a blast of the drill and they would reveal a real nice shine, free of rust.

I had done a couple of them last summer and through making contact with water would cause them to form a light coat of rust.

So I am asking, how do I prevent rust formation on polished off bolts/nuts? Compound? WD40? Is their anything specific I could get for this purpose?

Thanks.

Battery terminal protector? Comes in a little spray can. Spray it on...wipe off excess. I dunno might work.

Use a high temperature clear coat after cleaning them off. Use a brake parts cleaner to get the grease off of them first.

I know nissan motorsport sells an all stainless bolt kit for the entire engine bay of all Z's , we need mazdatrix to come out w/ the same thing. it's about $110 for the Z's. expensive for bolts, but $110 for all the pretty stuff is great if your engine bay paint is brand new and motor is freshly painted. i'm sure if anough people ask they will carry it...corksport may be another route, these guys love to make stuff for us. sure, it's pricey but they do have some decent ideas. so far the only thing they make that really doesnt look good are those over fenders. lexan hatch?? H-bracing?? exterior molds?? cool stuff indeed!!! someone shoo them some e-mails about this!!!

Unfortunately Cad Plating is a minumum 75.00 plating fee, not counting the chemical cleaning charge

or you could try jet-hot, powedercoating...we've had a few items jet-hotted and the results have been pretty impressive. they should have a metallic color...u send the stuff out, they send it right back.

It looks like the only practical way of maintaining them rust free Is don't get them wet.

give jet hot a ring, their turn around time is real fast and since they are small pieces who knows what the charge may be. some wadding polish will get that rust right off though so u may just wanna give the bolts a once over every few weeks

All bolts/nuts removed and polished off look better than original when Installed.

When original, they were coated with a gold like finish. Now they are brilliant silver after I ran It through with drill/wire brush wheel.
