Engine acting real strange; doesn't listen to ajustmets like idle speed or timing....

its an s5 engine with the front cover swapped to an s4 wired into an s4 wireing system.
worked fine for the longest time, but the 6th port sleeves were stuck closed so i pulled em out and installed a catless exaust with a header.
now it doesnt seem to have any *****. i go from 3k-5k and feel no extra pull like you would expect.
what do you guys think? open to suggestions

btw most of the emissions were removed like the rats nest air pump ect. and theres no secondary throddle plates or pulsation dampener, straght fuel lines

Being that you removed the intake, are you sure there are no vacuum leaks? How about the fuel injector grommets/o-rings? If they are old/hard/brittle they can be vacuum leaks.

If you are still using the S5 intake, how are you activating the VDI? The ECU controls a solenoid that (using the air pumps output) opens the VDI and 5th/6th ports. If it is stuck on the long runners it could explain power loss on the top end. That could also be why the 5th/6th ports were stuck closed.

Lastly, if it is not holding adjustments (timing/idle), are you jumping the "Initial Set Coupler" before adjusting it?

Hope this helps and good luck,
Vince

hmm...i dont know why it wouldent work, my ports dident open fully when i changed my omp lines, so i sprayed wd-40 on them then they were better, so you can do that for the ports...as far as the other stuff..im stumped, it might be your secondaires not opening at 5k/6k and there running on only the primaries....witch would be weird...cause i think mine were doing that they were a bit clogged and my car wasent making power at 6k that and it would studder after 4k meaning my secondaires werent opening....after that...but thats my 2 cents....good luck

if you have an S5 engine with an S4 wiring harness how are you opening your 5th and 6th ports? The N/A S4 opens them via vaccum line, the S5 is electronic.

I did every thing the same way on my 90 GXL except I didn’t put on a S4 front cover. This is my experience removing the 5th and 6th port sleeves. It did help increase horse power on top end after about 4,500 rpm (I don’t know by how much, I never put it on a dyno. But I could feel a difference). Although, I did do a street port on the intake and exhaust removed the pulsation damper and port matched upper, mid and lower intake manifolds when I was rebuilding. Also I have racing beat header, pre-silencer and mufflers. I have heard that removing the sleeves will give you a loss of about 12ft. lbs. of torque on the bottom end. Then I decided to wire open my VDI and noticed more power loss on the bottom end but more of an increase on the top end. Then I decided to remove the secondary throttle plates on an extra throttle body and installed it. That’s when my 7 became a slug, it didn’t have any power on bottom end or on top end. So, I quickly removed that throttle body and put the original throttle body that had the secondary plates back on. I have also heard that proper working 5th and 6th port sleeves and VDI with all the other intake mods will give you a better all round rpm range and more torque.

So you might want to do a search on 5th and 6th port actuators. I think I remember reading about someone putting some kind of pump on the on the actuators so that they would open at 3500 rpm with the air pump and ACV removed.
