Engage clutch... *clank*

i spilled beer on my keyboard, so sorry for any weird engrish...

as the title says, it doesn't happen all the time but when it does it is very loud. when the sound happens, its when the clutch takes up and it goes *clank*. it is so loud that, i drove past construction workers a few days ago and when i changed gears and it made that noise, they all turned and looked.

transmission got rebuilt a little over a year ago, 6,000 miles. clutch and pressure plate are dealer purchased mazda units. i dont see anything broken under the car.

i drive this car back and forth to work, so it's not like i beat the snot out of it.

When you replaced the clutch did you replace the throw out/release bearing along with shift fork, pivot ball and spring? I would lean towards one of those items as opposed to the clutch already going bad or being the issue

Not sure since I had a shop do it. I called rotary performance this morning and I am going to take my car to them, so they can listen to it.

Diff mount?

If it's that loud I would be hesitant to suggest the release bearing or fork. However, over time and heavy usage these two items can wear in ways to cause a clank on pedal take up.

Went to RP and dave drove my car, knew what it was immediately.

So, when the transmission got installed (different shop) they bent a finger on the pressure plate. So when I engage the clutch and it's in that sweet spot, the finger bangs against the throwout bearing.

Nothing to be alarmed about, it's just going to make an annoying sound. Figures...

At least it didn't cost me anything.
