Here's how to test the switch from the 1990 FSM.

When you press the switch in both the up and down directions, do you feel pressure against your finger or does the switch fall through easily? If you don't feel any pressure, you will have to take the switch apart and you will notice that probably one or both walls of the switch have broken. I fixed mine by super gluing the wall back on. Those walls are what you feel pressing up against you when you press the button.

Hope this helps.
