Have you double-checked all the wiring? What info did you use to wire the head unit up?

Man, this is like the 1000th thread about installing a stereo and the car not working. This is why I used a harness adapter!

Personally I see no need for adaptor harnesses. I didn't need one and my stereo works fine. Matching the head unit's bare wires to the factory plugs (using a wiring diagam), crimping on spade connectors, and plugging it all in was a ten minute job.

I'd get a wiring diagram and check that the harness is wired right. Specifically check the head unit's illumination wire (since switching on the lights causes the problem). It should be connected to the red wire with a black stripe on the 3-pin plug.

There is an illumination wire. The stock head unit's harness has several plugs, one of which is a 3-pin. Look for the black/red wire on this plug.

Yeah, and having worked in the electronics field for over 14 years, I would agree. But sometimes I just like to take the easy way out. For the novice, I recommend the harness adapter.

The stock stereos in all FC's had external amps. See the FSM for locations and schematics.

No, that's different. The speakers had external power amps. The FSM is the Factory Service Manual, which you can download free from www.iluvmyrx7.com. Stereo info is in the Body Electrical and Wiring Diagrams chapters.

I think the amps are under the speakers in the rear strut towers and there's also one directly under the glove box. That's everything I know or want to know about radios/speakers etc. Get a Sony Walkman. humor
