Electrical problems, of course....

I posted this question before, but couldn't get it fixed. Here is what I said in the old thread:

"Alright so after I did my interior swap and was plugging everything bag in and hooking everything back up, my clock, cd player, and cig lighter ALL didn't work. Those were the only things that didn't work. Also, the idiot lights worked but not the clock, I thought that was weird. Went through lots of stuff, wiring, fuses, etc, nothing seemed to fix it and I couldn't find the problem.

Last night I was driving my car at night for the first time since the interior swap and I turned on my lights. Behold the clock worked! I was so surprised that I decided to go and throw my CD player and radar detector in to test them with the lights on as well. They worked to! So what's going on? As soon as I turn my lights on everything works, as soon as I turn my lights off they stop working. I thought this was really weird.

Also, the clock works when the lights are on, and if I turn my lights off and then back on it DOESN'T reset. But every time I turn my car off/back on and turn on the lights to check the clock, it has reset itself back to 1. As long as the car is on, though, it wont reset.

What the hell is wrong with my wiring, I'm baffled."

To sum it up, cd player/cig lighter/clock don't work when the lights are off and clock resets itself every time the lights are turned off/on even with car running the whole time.

Icemark said in the thread that everything points to the cig lighter fuse inside the cabin, but it's not blown so I'm still stumped. Over the past month I've been trying to figure this out with no luck

Checked all the fuses many many many times, so please don't say to do that. Any ideas or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.

Obviously you got at least one wire crossed somewhere, just gotta figure out where it is...

Hmmm, is your CD player using the "cigar" circuit for its power? Some things would start making sense if it was (instead of the "audio" circuit).

Right off of the top of my head, I can see that if the cigarette lighter and bulb for it had crossed wires, that might explain things. How do your gauge lights work, all OK? And do your hazards work with the light switch off?

Did you notice on any of the connectors you put together that there was a totally different colored wire that mated with another one? In other words, is there say a blue wire on one side of the connector and a red on the other? That might be your first clues about what's going on...

Another thing you could do is pull the 15A "illum" fuse, then turn the lights back on & see if all the stuff works again. If it doesn't work this time, then at least we'll know we're on the right track...

It APPEARS as if the CD player is using the cigar circuit for its power, thought I cannot be 100% as I didn't install it. A wire is running from the CD player harness and is spliced into the cigar circuit.

Gauge lights work fine, no problems. Hazards work, as far as I can tell, with the lights OFF. As my ebrake light is on when the lights are not, but the clock still doesn't work.

No I did not notice that. After taking out and putting the dash back in I plugged all the parts together with what I thought they went to, because when I pulled the dash I left all the plugs in their general location and when putting it back together the plugs were only next to 1 other plug that fit it, so I figured they were still correct.

I'll go check that right now and get back to you.

You are correct, with the 15A Illum fuse pulled none of the things work when the lights are turned on or any other time for that matter.

All righty, we're getting somewhere

You need to get back to the deck and cut that power wire out of the cigar light circuit (if it's spliced into a red/green wire, or a blue/black (from the lighter), that's the problem). Find the blue/white wire back in there from the 20A audio circuit, and connect her up to that bad boy...And make sure your memory wire is spliced into the blue/red from the room circuit. You should be good to go after that

I'll go ahead and try that soon, but the thing is... It was like this before I took out the dash for the black interior conversion and was working perfectly fine and normal, but after putting the dash back in it's like this

You may have other wiring problems, too, other than the deck. I'll keep staring at the schematics, but in the meantime, wire up the deck correctly...

Oh, NOW you tell me, lol...All this time I was assuming a PO screwed it up for you...

Now we know it's something YOU did

Stick with verifying and correcting the deck's wiring first, and make sure the cigar lighter and cigar lighter light wires are not crossed somewhere...We'll see what's going on after that, aight?

Sounds good. Yah I know it's something I did Seems like I didn't plug something in or unplugged something else, I don't know, because I didn't do any changes to the wires that I can recall.

Plus now I just noticed that my stupid clock, when working, flickers sometimes. Hitting the dash fixes it, though
