I wouldn't think the alternater could keep the car from turning off. My guess is that you've got a crossed/shorting wire somewhere (probly under the dash if your luck is like mine). I know theres a thing called "dieseling" where the motor keeps running from a hot spot in the compustion chamber after the car is tuned off but I dont know if thats possible on a rotary. Isn't there a fuel cut when the key is turned off?

IF the alternator wires are crossed, the power will backfeed into the igniton circuit and the removal of the key will have no effect.

Next time you turn the car off and remove the key, and the engine keeps running, go to the alternator and remove the small two wire plug and see if that has an effect.
