Electric Smog Pump

My only reason for considering this is to clean up the engine bay a bit. I have read plenty about the use of a corvette air pump to activate Aux intakes electronicaly, and I was just thinking to myself, why not use it like its meant, and have a cleaner engine bay too.

Is there any reason (except the weakness of the stock alternator) no to use an electric air pump in place of the stock mechanical one?

the corvette pump can only be used for about 10 mins max or it burns up. the corvette ECU turns it on and off when needed. it only runs for like 2 mins at a time on the vette.

when people use it for emmissions. you just turn it on as you pull up, and turn it off when you pull away.

it's not ment for constant use.

Are there electric pumps that will work for full time use?

and FYI, the stock pump only puts air to the cat in 5th gear while cruising... if you put a pump to the cat constant you would melt the cat as well.

If that were the case, it would be unneccessary for emissions w/o visual inspection. I'm not doubting you, just wondering why all the fuss of having it if it doesn't affect emissions.
