Electric fan vs. Clutch fan (Round 2)
I would like to know what would be a good CFM rating(for an electric fan) for my 90 GXL ?
Would anyone know the CFM rating on the stock clutch fan?
I found a 16 inch 1,900 CFM e-fan for a good price and wanted to know if this would work?

depends on where you live and what the temp is there, how you drive your car and such. IMHO i would design and plan for the worst case scenario. Death Valley, summertime. 100 MPH. That way you're covered. I would go with at least 2000 CFM. I have a SPAL racing 16" puller. (never pusher) that flows 2360 in my TII; and in West Texas the car never over heated on me. 130 MPH + and the ambient air temp was 112 farenheit. I think that would cover you for a while. considering your engine won't get as hot as an N/A. check out www.racesearch.com that's where i got mine. Way lighter than a black magic. and takes less space too.

The stock fan will outperform ANY electric fan you can buy! you loose space from the stock setup, you may loose half a Hp or so .. but cooling wise you cannot beat the stock fan. I will bet my left ball on that. I am not touching the stock fan until, or unless I really need the space.
It spins acording to engine speed & heat .. not acording to the juice of the alternator & the CFM of the fan at might I add..... MAX output.

ive been told by several RX-7 enthusiasts that i see as "experts" that with the stock radiator, the best thing you can have is the stock fan and shroud. i was also told if/when i do upgrade to an aftermarket radiator, the best fan to get is the pontiac fiero fan from a junkyard. i can see where this makes sense. my T2 has the stock fan and shroud and i see cooler temps than the guys with afttermarket fans and stock radiators. it makes the most sense to me, so thats what im gonna stick to.

Add it up. A hot summer nite in CA 90+ degrees. Headlights on, S-AFC powered, HAltech has juice, EBC powered up, AC is on (Thus the blower also) Stereo and both amps powered up. At idle you car will strugle to hold even 12.5 volts. read the fine print on those aftermarket E-Fans you are talking ~2000 CFM in ideal conditions and 14.5+ volts. At idle when the heat control is most important those fan cannot pump the heat away...
FC Drifter I agree with you in a way .. but I say stock RAd or not .. the cluch fan will out-perform.. It doesnt make sense to me that a E-fan will cool better on a add on RAD but not on a stock Rad ... if it cools better stock, it will cool even better modded.

Rpeck, ive seen a guy with a mazdacomp radiator in his T2, fiero fan and just plain old water/antifreeze mix. my car stays at about 1/4 temp all day long. his car was lower than that. thats why i say with an aftemarket radiator, a good electric fan is ok. that car ran cool, real cool. the temp that day was at/near 100s. A/C was on, stereo blazin. it cooled fine. i woudnt go to e-fan on a stock radiator, but i would on an aftermarket one.

I agree FC; what I am saying is... if his E-fan did that well with a AM RAD. a stock fan would do even better with a AM RAD. But if you go E-Fan in a hot climate and still have and intend to use your A/C you better have a AM RAD.
And to me that proves they cool less... cause a stock RAD and Stock fan can run AC in a hot climate without any problem unless you have serious mods.
