electric fan question

im trying to decide on which electric fan to get and was wondering if the Perma-Cool Standard Electric Fans are good or should i go with the Perma-Cool High Performance Electric Fans. or any other recommendations would be greatly appreciated..and also, how hard are they to install?

If you want to save about $100 go to a junk yard and pull the biggest electric fan you can find from whatever car might have one. I pulled mine from some big *** domestic something or other. It cost me $20 and works great.

The first pic is the switch I wired up to turn it on, and the second is the actual fan. If you prefer a temperature sensitive switch, you can get the Black Magic thermostat switch from Victoria British for $15 I believe.

A few people use the Black Magic fan, not cheap but works good from what I hear. If your getting rid of your fan clutch and going with an electric fan, make sure you get something that is going to be good enough to cool down the engine and won't die on you in the middle of a traffic light.

If a domestic OEM e-fan can blow a big V8 well enough, it can also blow my motor well enough. Also, these things must be just as reliable as a Black Magic because they were made to keep the engine cool in the first place. If you really want to spend $140 instead of $20, I'm certainly not stopping you, but I have better things to spend the money on.

I would suggest...

Getting a fan from a junk yard as well. I have one on my 2000 S-10 and it owrks great! I sourced it from a 3.8L Ford Taurus It is a two speed fan and the low setting actually keeps the truck running about 10 degrees cooler Definately cheaper than the kits from Flex-a-lite and perma-cool.

I don't think that’s necessary the case, If I'm not mistaken the rotary engine works @ much higher temps than any V8. I replaced the stock fan with a blackmagic unit 2800 cfm (if my memory serves me correct). The blackmagic fans it’s a great choice, it has proven its efficiency in Maryland and then in Puerto Rico when I exported my car, it has been about 5 years without any problem!

You're right...that's not necessarrily the case, but I know from experience with 2 RX-7s that it is the case. A $20 junk yard fan works just as well as an expensive new one. My engine and my friends both stay perfectly cooled with the junk yard fans. Go right ahead and waste your money.

if money is not an object to u on the purchase of a fan then buy to ur hearts content...but then again if ur on a budget buy at the junkyard.. always remember that u get what u pay for... so if things go wrong with the fan no matter where it was purchased dont get mad just make another choice... me personally i bought the black magic 150 for 189.00 bucks give or take and i have no complaints abt it... since at the time money was not an object the objective was getting an electric fan...
