Efi to carb questions

Hey guys I'm new here and have been trying to look around and see if I can find answers to my questions before I posted but I'm not super firmiliar with the site yet. I have some questions about the FI to carb conversion.. I found a couple threads that answered some questions i have but I'm not cleat on a few others so I'll post them here and see if I can get some clarity. I bought a 87 GCL and it was set up with a racing beat intake, Holley 750 carb, Holley fuel pump, FPR and header I was gonna go back with the FI because thats what I know. I had someone say I'd be happy with the carb set up and since it was mostly done I'd come out a little cheaper finishing it rather than going back to EFI... the previous owner didn't change the dizzy for what ever reason. so I was wondering...
can you do the conversion without changing the dizzy? surely the stock CPU won't manage just the ignition... so if I left the dizzy I'd need an ECM to control just the ignition. Seems the best route is to use a first gen dizzy trash the CPU and get aftermarket coils. I seen a post on here that said to get 2) blaster 2 coils and 2 MSD 6al's of I wanted rev limiter and that would take care of the ignition I guess what I'm wondering is that accurate? Id like to know what the best route to take for ignition on this swap... I'd prefer to have the best option for the car and hope that there is someome on here that can tell me the best route to take and what I need to purchase for the ignition on this car... also if anyone has done this conversion what do you think the difference is in performance... uve tried to look online but don't seem to be alot of info on the 13b carb conversion .ve seen some 12a motors but its not as much as I thought there would be... thanks for any help guys....

You can use a 1981-1985 dizzy with electronic ignition. It does not require a CPU to control. There are also other options then staying with the 1981-1985 coils. You'll need the dizzy with the ignitors attached to it. I think you can use your second gen coils but I've never used them so can't speak to that part.

I looked at my coils and they are coils with igniters... I was hoping to find an aftermarket setup other than the dizzy. Are you running a carb setup? If so what are you using for coils in yours?

welcome to the board.

if you do an advanced search using the term " 2gdfis", then specify titles and specify the Gen 1 Forum, you should be able to find some good info that would help you be able to retain your stock leading coil while using the Gen 1 dizzy. i don't know if or how you could integrate the trailing coil, so that may take some figuring ... or use of another option.
