effffffff

so heres the story about my car. i got it from a guy that said it didnt run. thought i could make it run. when i got it home and off the tow truck i noticed a few things. wiring harness in horrible condition and the starter just dangling.i went and had the starter tested and it was good. and a 2 fuses were blown. teh 80a in the engine bay and the engine fuse 15a in the drivers side kick panel fuse box.alright so i went out and got the 80a fuse that goes in the engine bay. i plugged it in put the battery in and when i was going to plug the positive side to the battery sparks started flying from where the spark plugs go. then a puff of smoke came up from behind the alternator. i checked the 80a engine fuse. blown! i am in desperate need of help. help me get my rx7 running

check all your wiring and make sure copper isn't touching. worst case scenario you have to pull the dash and replace the main wiring harness.

Actual pics of the wiring harness will be buried in other parts or close up pictures of random connections you won't make heads or tails of. The FSM will have wiring diagrams with their respective colors.

take your car to a mechanic. sorry to say it, but from your threads it seems like the wisest route to take.

you're either hooking the battery up backwards or you have a faulty alternator, im betting battery backwards..

both wires are black. black with white stripe is neg(least i think it was, hell i even get confused thinking about it..)

If you trace the negative wire it should almost immediately go to where it bolts onto the chassis. The positive wire goes to the main fusebox.

You will need a multi-meter to check for shorts. Before you hook the battery up, check the resistance between the chassis and the lead which hooks to the positive battery terminal. If you do not understand this, then you need to take the car to a mechanic.

Good luck,

-bill
