I'm researching an ecu replacement. My latest drive has convinced me that the stock unit has to go, and has to go soon. I am turning my '87 FC into a super-car (slowly but surely). I'd like to know why you chose the ECU you chose, and whether you would repeat the decision, or go with something else now.

 

are you boosted or n/a?

if yoru gonig to constenly be adding to your car i wouldnt go with a remaped ecu so standalone would be your best bet, haltech or microtech maby? tec3 ? all depends on what you want or what your local tuner prefer's i guess

 

I use stock, because I can't afford anything else

 

Microtech, because its cheap and uses the stock mazda sensors.

Thanks guys. I'm looking for the most bang. Not the most bang for the buck, not the easiest or cheapest, but the absolute best possible equipment. Right now I'm N/A. When I'm done with the suspension (looking like 18 mo's because I drive it regularly, actually daily right now) I'll be adding a whipple super-charger. From what I can tell, the Wolf 3D V4.0 has the highest RPM resolution (map points every 125 RPM), but I'm not sure how important that is, or how well it performs overall. I'm studying everything I can find so I can tune it myself. I'm making the neccessary investments to make this as safe as possible. Ease of programming is not an issue though. Performance is my only issue.

 

The wolf is supposed to be a good unit. Talk to "evil aviator" on here. I think he has experience with it. Also the new haltech is coming out soon. Best advice is to put this search off until you are ready to purchase. Theres always going to be "bigger and better" EMS's coming out.

 

But if I wait 'till I've got all the cash, I wont know if I've got all the cash. I guess I could save up for the most expensive, and if it's not the best unit, spend the extra on other mods.

 

I use Autronic, not the cheapest, not the easiest to install.

But VERY reliable, Proven features, much cheaper than Motec, and has been in production for 8+ years (so very proven track record).

I run a SMC model, If you want timing split, traction control, staged injector control then you need an SM2.

For a run down, I class my car in the supercar league (my design goal was F40 performance) It makes 566bhp @ 20 psi @ 7500rpm, will do (has done) 200mph, and have been using the same engine for almost 4 years ( no failures)

Once again, they are no the most common ecu to be run on a rotary, but have been run by my self and others with great success, you will need to use different sensors and igntion components, but the effort is well worth it

 

If you're going for best bang, I actually don't reccommend microtech. Support for it SUX in the states. I have yet to find a decent faq online for even their oldest systems. I like the cost and ease of install, but I'm still waiting till I have some real free time for tuning.

(My TII vert isn't a daily driver so its been a long term work in progress.)

 

Haltech E11 is going to blow away all those other stand-alone EMS brands for performance per price.

I current use a G-Force on my '87 Turbo II, cause I got it for a good price used. &nbsp I had an Autothority one, but it ran on the rich side and popped the exhaust a lot - the G-Force is a "cleaner" code.

I like my Haltech E6K. Good price, good web site for help, its been installed a lot on RX7s and there is a lot of info and pics on the internet on the install and it was the best price for what you get. Also, you can download the "Hitman's" maps for free.
I researched EMS's for about a year and I believe for the street and sometimes track it is the best.

 

What will make the E11 so great? Where can I get info?

 

I got an E6K and the support for it has been good. It's a popular model, and so far lots of people are familiar with it.
