Exclamation Help with buying this vehicle.

I have been looking for a S5rx7 for some time and currently am looking at this one. It is 4 hours away so i havent been able to look at it personaly but i talked to the owner and he has just sent me a letter and some pics.

OK first off her is what he wrote "1990 ,series 5, 96000kms 260k speedo, momo stering wheel, KYB Super R suspension, 3' pipe from turbo 2 Batman muffler, Big stage 2 engine port with 3' apex seals,12lb steel bullet flywheel, 5 puck brass button 2000lb pressure plate all new 1000ks old HKS super Bov, pipecross front mounted filter. No emissions, reprogramed ecu to 20 lbs boost, 12a secondary injectors, new zealand assembled close ratio box g-box, no noisez, winez, mint running gear, new tyres, 235 45 17" vallen wheels polished, new wof, needs some locks and a touchup 6500$ NZ "

Well also i know for a fact that its running a s4 bock and turbo cos he told me. I also know its been trashed. The guy has been fully honest. So my question to you guys is it worh it? And i will be ringing him tonight and askinging hime more questions. So if anyone has any advice would be greatly appriciated

a couple things about this car look like a red flag. How man american dollars is $6500 NZ? i'm thinking its around 3000 or so. i would really consider buying it, but you HAVE you drive it before you drive it. IF you hear ANY detonation at all, dont buy it. what is "new wof"

Red flag #1: 12a injectors trying to keep up with 20 lbs of boost? maybe you new zealanders got different injectors on your 12a's but i know that USDM injectors from a 12a could NOT keep up with 12 lbs of boost, let alone 20.

Red Flag #2: Reprogrammed ecu to 20 lbs of boost. again... i dont know how different these UK cars are from the US cars, but i would totally NOT trust the stock ecu in a US rx7 (reprogrammed or not) to run 20 lbs of boost.

Red Flag #3: Stage 2 street port while running 20 lbs of boost on the motor. i guessing that this is a fairly large street port, which means that your engine life is going to be shortened. especially at 20 lbs of boost.

overall, the car seems to look good from what i can see. the transmission and flywheel/clutch all seems fine and i love those rims. you new zealanders are hardcore.

the most important thing, is to not buy the car without actually seeing it. i personally would not drive the car without driving it. if you drive it, its gonna be fast as a ***** that just got off the rag. but if it detonates while its going that fast, its not going to be going that fast for very much longer.

Ummmmm... 12a injectors? All the 12a's here are carburated. Maybe he means GSL-SE injectors?

Yesa it is. A lot of rx7 in nz are either Jap 2nd hand imported or assembled here. IM not sure about the assembly part, if not then all were imported here till about the bat when they stoped selling them here. SAid it was to expensive for newzealanders. But there are heaps of bats around so that is all good.

S4 motors have lower compression. I guess thats one reason he went with it. He could have had the engine laying around OR he probably got a killer deal on it and couldnt pass it up. Never know. I dont know how much that is in US dollars but try talking him down on the price as much as you can. The car looks very clean and S5 TIIs are pretty hard to find. Go check it out and point out every little imperfection and try lowering the price down with them. Good luck with the car. Let us know how everything goes.

Yeh thats what im going to do, But the car is like 4 hours drive away. OH well ill see if i can lower the price for another grand. Then engine rebild is going to cost me from areound 2000 nz to 5000 im thinking worst case scenario so im not happy at all. At the moment.

(the currency coversion for 5 grand is "5,000 New Zealand Dollar = 2,396.00 US Dollar "

I think 2396.00US is a pretty good deal for a good condition running S5.
