ECU upgrade thread

I don't see anything quite like this, so hopefully this will bring together some useful information. I have a few questions about ECU upgrades that are probably very basic, but things that I'm guessing a lot of people would benefit from having consolidated into a single thread.

First off, What ECU upgrades are available? I've heard of the SAFC and RTek; is there anything else?

What exactly ARE they? What are the various stages/versions of these?

Are they particular to series?

SAFC is a piggyback, it takes the signal from the AFM and modifies it to trick the computer into giving more or less fuel (and concequently ignition advance). RTek 1.X series are for TII's that have certain sets of mods and are non-adjustable. RTek 2.0 is basically the stock computer where you can make your own ignition maps and adjust the stock fuel maps and do a few other things. Then there's the full standalones, starting from the DIY Megasquirt all the way up to mega buck Motec, Microtech and so on.

Your mods and goals will determine what is the best for you.

So if I have an n/a, an RTek 1.x is not for me... How useful is a 2.0 for an n/a with bolt-ons?

How effective is the SAFC for an n/a with bolt-ons?

By the way, thanks for the link! I dunno how I'd forgotten that we had a separate engine management section.
