ECU swap S4-S5

I searched for a good bit and couldnt find what I was looking for.

Is it possible to swap an s4 ecu with an s5? I only ask as over here in Japan, its absolutely impossible to find any type of support for a s4, and s5 chipped ecu's are all over the place for under $100. I have an entire engine/harness/accessories from a s5 as well, so getting MAF's and what-have-you is no issue.

Thanks for any help guys

the connector/wiring is different between S4 and S5, so its not easy, but its been done.

if you're going to do all that work, you might think about just going to an FD ecu, its just as hard to wire in, and its easier to deal with once the car is running

Yeah I was thinking of doing the Banzai s4 adapter to run a power FC. It seems like all I need is the re-wire, a map sensor, and IAT from an FD. I have a buddy tearing down an fd anyway. Is it just a matter of re-pinning?

I don't mean to rain on your parade but the FD uses a trigger wheel instead of a CAS. I know repinning will work for an S5 but are you sure the FD and FC ecu share the same type of ignition timing signal?

they are, people fun power FC's on the FC CAS all the time. there is a difference in impedance so the stock FC ecu won't run on the FD cas, but apparently i'm the only person to try that?

I see. So leaving the stock FC CAS in place on say an S4 motor, you can rewire a Stock S6 ecu in and run it off that. Albeit the maps are different considering injector sizes are different as are port size...

Hmm. So theoretically, if say you had a large streetport and identical size injectors the FD sci would run a bit better

yep. i've got an FD engine and ecu in my FC, and it was a HUGE pain to wire it up (should have bought the adaptor), but it just runs better than the FC ecu.

Thats really interesting.. are hot starts better?

I'm going to be wiring an S4 turbo ecu into my cousins S5 soon.

If I didn't already purchase a Haltech I would have attempted this lol

I ended up getting a very good deal on an AP engineering Power FC, but its a S5, of course. It has the adapter harness though, S5 hahaha. Just swap the pins, or would it just be better to sell the S5 harness, and get the banzai one?
