The ecu resets, but retains all the codes. If you want to clear the codes, remove the positive terminal and depress the brake pedal for a few seconds.

Uh, your profile shows this to be an 87. If it is, you do not have to worry about the ECU retaining codes - this ECU (86-88) loses its error codes as soon as the error disappears. It couldn't retain a code to save its life! So don't worry about the brake pedal - you can't erase what isn't there!
