Eccentric Bolt Problems

I've been trying to get the eccentric shaft bolt out to do the oil bypass pellet and the mother won't budge. I've got the clutch held in and using a breaker bar resting against the frame while I pop the starter a time or 2 and its not moving for ****. Can I lock the flywheel or something? I don't exactly have access to an impact gun or compressor at the moment. Someone give me some advice. And am I going to have to lock the flywheel to torque it back down when I put it back in, or will it torque before the engine turns over? Thanks

Chris

put it in fifth gear clutch out and get a long *** breaker bar to break it loose. Then once its loose get something to keep the clutch pedal down or your bearing under the front cover will fall out of place. if that falls out of place youl have to take the front cover off

I'm having a similar problem- only mine block is out and on an engine stand- and I actually have an impact gun... but the bolt isn't budging at all even after holding the gun wide open on it for a stupid amount of time. Whoever installed this thing last must have used the mother of all impact guns.

Though I imagine it would given what it's attached to (the block), will the bolt & surrounding stuff (housing, etc.) take being heated up with a propane torch without damage?

Yes, you can heat the front bolt with a torch.

The bolt is held in with loctite and it should be torqued to 94 ft/lbs. For the future, never use an impact gun for installing E-shaft bolt. You have to set the end-play and using an impact gun, thus not torquing correctly, would give you innacturate results. The best tool I have used is available at mazdatrix under flywheel stopper. It's just a gear that holds the flywheel in place.

Make sure the thrust bearing doesn't fall.

Did you unbolt the locking plate that mounts under the pulley bolts?

Wuss....I do it the same way I loosen the flywheel nut:

Seriously, heat the bolt with a torch first. You need to release the Loctite. Then take the big impact gun and spin it off. Lacking the gun, put the car into 5th gear and set the parking brake then use a long breaker bar (my favourite bar is 4 feet long). The key is to warm it up.

FWIW: When you want to lock the driveline, I recommend 4th gear instead of 5th.
It puts less strain on the tranny by using the straight through direct drive instead of the countershaft & overdrive gear teeth.
I learned this by breaking a tooth on the input gear of an MG tranny.

PS: Aaron, I just watched your video clip. You could be one of those TV DIY personalities that zips through mod in 5 minutes.

Finally got it off this afternoon- took the propane torch, my breaker bar and a five foot length of pipe with my leaning pretty hard on it. I was worried that the bolts holding the block to the stand were going to give out before the loctite did. It looks like it had been dipped in loctite and then gunned on. -_-
