With a razor knife.
But if you have to put one in, you have two options. Pull the dash, or trim the new carpet to tuck up under the dash without removing it.

Have Fun, good luck. you better have all your patience with you. (it not that bad) just removing the dash and not breaking any dash pieces is the trick part. their is a wright up on dash removel.

that carpet is insane, I'm rebuilding a 91' and I wanted to just lift the carpet in the seat pan to check for rust or deterioration.. the engine came out easier then the carpet lifted.. jeeze, I made a new dead pedal and it was like fighting a puma to get it in.. that carpet must be what they put in M1A1 main battle tanks to make then bullet proof..
I wish that Mazda had taken the time to use metal on the under tray as durable as the carpet is..

Remove seats, door sill plates, trim in footwells, seat belt hold-downs, centre console and shift boot. After that you have a choice, remove the dash or cut the carpet above the trim line at the front of the tranny tunnel (kinda hard to describe but its in behind the dash). I chose to cut - then pull on the tabs at the back of the carpet and your done. It's quite a PITA, so much so that my 'new' carpet is still sitting downstairs until I forget how much of a PITA it was...

well I cut mine as removing the dash was way to much work i put my carpet and eveything back in my car and you can't even tell that i cut it you just have to make certain that you get through the carpte and the rubber underslay! also make certain that you cut it as high up as you can and make sure there are no wires leading behind it!
Good luck
P.S. If i was going to make a battle ship i would make it out of carpets from FC's!!!

excuse my (canadian) french but if your not a *****
(strong enough) take out the seats remove all the stuff you need to remove (you should know if your trying to take out the front carpet)... make sure you remove the two bolts on the side of the center console so it can bend and move around remove the shifter and all the bushings and rubber surrounds...get comfortable and pull from the back of the carpet like your rowing a damn boat. You will have to move it inch by inch but this way you wont mess up your carpet and it will come out in one piece. - hope that helps out somewhat... -gabe

Agreed about it being ghetto, but considering how brittle the plastic parts are in the FC, you're bound to bust stuff just trying to get the dash out.

I aggree you still have to remove the bins, and the seats and the center consol you only make two cuts in the carpet you will never ever know, even if you baught the car and you were to take it out you would never know... Ghetto, tell me how ghetto it is to have to glue each pice of your brittle plastic dash that you broke, or fiberglassing them so that they will be close to as astrong! It is worth it in the long run!
Ghetto is having to repair almost every pice of you dash because it is a PAIN IN THE *** to remove!
Good Luck

Yea, the carpet is a pain. But with a little patience...or brute strength and disregard for safety, you can get it out fairly easily.
And pull the dash to do it so you have it done the right way the first time!

I did an S4 maron to S5 black interior swap. Removing the dash wasn't nearly as hard as I was expecting it to be. If I were to do it again, I would un-bolt the dash so you can move it around a litte, and shove the carpet under there.
