The E Terinal On A Series Five Alt

There's two jpgs attached. One from the series five FSM showing how to check the rotor coil. The other jpg is of a series five alternator, the real deal so to speak.

The question that I've never found an answer for, is, just where the heck is the *E* place to probe?

What they show in the FSM, is the location of the threaded screw hole that holds the internal brush holder on. That ain't right. So, if someone KNOWS where the *E* is, look at my second jpg of the real deal where I've drawn pink, red and green lines, and let me know where *E* is in relation to them.

I know the problem with this alt. It's the regulator itself not putting out approx 3vdc with key to ON, engine off (zip vdc), and the diodes are probably good since the diode reading from the *B* to the case is .....aw shucks, .980 vdc if memory serves, or within a nat's *** of that figure.

Your pink line is pointing at it?

His pink line is pointing at where the FSM says the *E* probe is...which...is a threaded hole. Thus his question.

I think the series five and series four FSM's are both all wrong about this. I give up. I don't really need to know that little piece of knowledge to tell the regulator is bad, but I tried to follow the BOOK for once (actually a couple of times in the past), and that particular *test* just ain't workable as they show it.
