E-Brake warning light always on.

Hey guys,

I have been really busy the past year or so and have had hardly any time to drive or mess around with my FC. It's just been collecting dust in the garage.

Finally took it out on the weekend past, had to charge the battery up to get it going and after blowing a nice cloud of smoke for the first 10 seconds it went straight to clean and all was good... idling how it should.

The only thing not right is the warning light for the ebrake is always on, even when the brake is definately off/down. After driving for a while it went off and came back then went off again etc. Then it went off for a while, i pulled up at the lights and put the ebrake back on and no light at all. later it came on again and wouldn't go off.

So my question is, what is some things to check? Easy solution or not? I hate electricals The rest of the warning lights are ok, nothing else is playing up.

Regards,
Andy.

So yours was low fluid aswell then?

Is that warning light for the ebrake or for brake fluid, because when i've been at the lights a few times and put the handbrake on, the light hasn't come on.

I haven't had a chance to check the fluid level yet. Long hours at work at the moment.

thanks guys! Just remembered i had a FSM in pdf format here at work from years ago :P

It just says the light is for low brake fluid and doesnt have anything to do with the ebrake.

I haven't checked my brake fluid in a while and i don't remember topping it up... ever... Is it normal for brake fluid to go down in level over time? I don't want to go driving and find out i have a leak and i lose my brakes all together?!

The light is for both. In addition to checking the level, there could also be bad cold solder joints in the idiot cluster. Just my .02......

so basically the warning light should be on when the ebrake is engaged.

I have no wire going to the ebrake, i noticed that the other day. It is just the connection next to the ebrake and there isn't a wire even there to reconnect, so i guess i wont get a light when my ebrake is up. This is just how i bought the car :/

Im thinking its simply a low level fluid warning. Will check later on

yeah just topped it off and light went off, as your brakes wear the piston has to extend further and thats why your fluid level goes down
