Dying RX-7 stock floor mats...

I am using the Duplicolor High Performance Fabric & Vinyl, giving it a go.

I scrubbed all the dirt and grime out of the mats, and let them dry, and just applied the first coat. I will wait until it is dry and apply the next coat.

Pictures of before and after when the project is done.

Maroon to Black, btw.

I did the same thing with some no name spray dye off ebay. Worked perfect. I am tempted to try on my maroon cargo cover but any mistakes/stroke lines would be alot more noticeable.

I'd like to know if anyone has tried to do the Headliner with this stuff?..I am "improving" my Interior and this is one thing I would like to do.I've already got the Color Scheme all Thought out,and I'm Hoping to use the Duplicolor stuff for the Headliner Fabric,as well as the Cargo Cover. So I need INPUT..by the way, apologies to the OP,but it looks good so far!..I'm going with Black on the Top part of the Door and leaving the rest the Original Blue.

Good news, my project rugs are the same material as the rest of the material I am going to be transferring from my old car [i.e. the cargo holders and back rug] and it does work.

The middle is what it USED to look like, the right is what it is now, and the left is my current carpet for my red fc with gray interior that is getting dyed black, but I wanted mats that were the originals.

Close up of it. Little maroon poking through, not much and its by my feet and not being ridiculed, I am accepting it for now.

Any comments? I thought it was pretty cool, and although simple, I thought it was a significant change for very cheap.

it looks great honestly. good job.
i don't even have the original mats in my car. i got some crappy rubber ones that the old owner bought from checker auto parts.
i am also glad to know that the rx7 came with a gray interior. my red one is kinda hashed, and i wanted a gray one instead of replacing the red stuff or getting the blue interior.
(question: What other colors did the interior come in??) (i'll search stuff, so if no one answers this i won't be offended.)
i hope the rest of your carpet and stuff. (whatever you use it on) comes out as good as the mats.

I did my Headliner..It looks like CRAP..I am going to Redo it with another Can,as I think there wasn't enough Sprayed to do a Good Job on it..I used a can Of Black on a Blue sunroof liner. It came out good..it's the Burgundy headliner going Black that is the "Tricky One"..it seems to Suck the paint in and is "thirsty for more"..lol!..so another One can should Do IT..I'll post with results,Or My Solution.

wow, thats awesome, i assume there isnt much of a need to remove that parts aslong as the area is well prepped and covered right?
has anyone given the dash a try with the duplicolor? thats the main part in the car that gets most noticed.

Bloodlust stated that she used it on the vinyl in her car and it turned out great. I am assuming it would be the same for your car as well, as long as you prepared it well enough.

UPDATE ON THE RUG: The dye seems to only top layer over the rug, so once given moisture the red seeps through again. HOWEVER, no black dye runs on my hand, so it is just not soaking in the surface. I suggest you rub the dye in with rubber gloves on. I will by trying this on my next mat. I am pretty sure that would do the trick for carpeting.

Looks great. I just sprayed my door panels and dash on my 90 vert; I didn't change colors, just a freshening up. I just finished paint and buff and I want the interior to be fresh as well.

That duplicolor spray works well.

Going to dye the rest of my interior in the next week I think... I am hoping to do a box conversion to my 2+2, I have all the parts.

I am thinking I might take it all out, and just make a box for my speakers. Has this been done?

How well does it last? My concern would be durability.

I Duplicolored my Inner plastics with a different Color. The job turned out Well.As for Durability,I am Venturing a guess to say that it will last Awhile.I Krylon Colored my Outer Plastics on the Car last year(the Spoiler, the Front, back and Sideskirts).they are Holding up real well...The Paint Doesn't require a Primer, and has a Flex agent in it.so That is the KEY to Plastic Paint,as opposed to the Regular Exterior Paint..That is where you get Cracking on Plastic.(like cracking paint on the front Bumper because it got "nudged").
