Dual stage MBC

Hey guys, i picked up an electonic dual stage boost controller, and i'd like to install it in the near future. The instructions are fairly simple, and i have a basic understanding of turbo/boost control systems. My question is, when i disconnect the stock boost control system, do I need to plug it off? Here's the manual for the boost controller: http://www.turbosmart.com.au/pdf/FG-GBCV-DS.PDF

To my understanding, i unplug the tee for the boost duty solenoid, and plug in the aftermarket boost controller tee?
Thanks
-Ross

How did you disable the stock system?

Just follow the directions just like it says ... you want the MBC in line from the housing to the wastegate. Very simple .. you are making this way to complicated. The stock system is just a flow through with the WG spring controling the boost level. The MBC allows the pressure to bleed off so the stock spring does not see the actual boost pressure. This is why a BC can never lower boost only raise it, you are just fooling the spring more or less.

FYI, that's not an electronic boost controller, it's just a MBC with a solenoid to allow two boost settings instead of one. A proper EBC is much better, but also much more expensive.

If you leave the stock solenoid installed you should cap the line or you'll create a post-AFM leak. If you remove the solenoid, plug TID where the solenoid's bleed hose connects into it.

No, you must use the tee that comes with it. Bleeder-type MBC's require a restriction between the compresor and the tee, and that restriction has been incorperated into the supplied tee. Note the tee must also be installed with the arrow pointing in the correct direction. Install it as per the picture in the instructions.

For your s5 car this is what u need to do.

Take off intercooler,
take off all intercooler hoses coming from turbo.
take of TID + air box.

Now there are two lines coming off the turbo unit. One is from the top of the compressor housing, and another at the bottom of the turbo (wastegate). Both lines go to this metal T, where it then goes to teh stock boost controller.

remove these two lines (it will be hard...i scraped the **** out of my hands).

take 2 new silicone vac hose, connect one ot top of turbo (copressor housing), i bent the nipple coming off a bit (becareful u can snap it off) i managed to loosen it a bit too much and jbwelded it back on.

take other vac line and insert into nipple from wastegate (round thing).

now you have two lines, connect each line to the appropriate part of the solenoid of the MBC (see your instruction sheet).

Now there is one nipple on the TID, right above hte check valve to teh solenoid rack. Take this nipple and either cap it, or cap the metal T near the wastegate and plug your stock boost controller line back into the TID.

button everything back up.

Remember to use zip ties, and be patient. It took me 3 days to install my avcr, that was because i spent a day fishing the harness through the firewall... NOT FUN!

good luck.

if your car blows up it is not my fault. Different cars have different configurations. Mileage may vary.

Good luck.

These lines both go to the supplied tee. From there another line goes to the solenoid.

Thanks guys... but i think i confused the crap out of all of you.... What i mean to do is remove the stock system, and use this instead. I imagine that there's a tee between the wastegate and the compressor housing nipple, correct? and that tees off into the stock boost controller, correct?

Do i just remove that tee, and plug the MBC's tee in there?

Thanks!

Install it as per the picture. That's all you need to do. Extremely simple!

No I understand that part... but what i'm asking is, to disable the stock system, do I just replace the stock, existing tee, with the aftermarket boost controller's tee?

Thanks again!

Yes! Once it's disconnected it can't do anything, so it is disabled.
