dual alternator pulley

i just removed my airpump and am wondering how badly this is needed. i also would like to know how high of rpm the water pump belt will start slipping. what will happen if it does slip?

There is no preset RPM for the belts to stop slipping, but the dual alt pulley is a good thing to have. higgi makes some VERY NICE ones!

Well I have the dual alt pulley, and FD Alternator. Best I can see is that the FD alt is off by 1/2 a milimeter or so, and am hence chewing belts due to not being aligned. That said... I slip consistently at 7k, but everything below that is tight.

The two identical belts now look completely different. One is its original size, the other is half the width it used to be.

high rpm slipping will sooner than later damage belt itself, it will become worse and then break....once it will break, u will have cooling and no charging and car will overheat

broken belt on highway or street leads to overheating in less than one minute

Without an air pump belt you need either a dual belt alternator - or an electric fan.

A single belt on the mechanical fan starts to slip around ~3K an by 7K it's screaming.
There's just not enough contact arc to support the fans torque load with a single belt.

I'm running that. But I couldnt find any belts the right size at any hardware stores, I did however stumble across this. It is a belt from napa, just go in there and it's something like a Napa Premium XL Belt, #7215, it's 25/64" top width and 22-1/8" imperial length.

I've always run without the airpump and the stock alternator pulley on a UR crank pulley and my belt never made a noise

Mmmm, here I found the info I posted in another thread a while ago:

Item#: NBH257215
Price: $ 8.49
Imperial Length: 22 1/8''
Top Width: 3/8''
Angle Degree: 36 Degree

Some possibilities:
1) You have an electric fan.
2) Your fan clutch is getting weak.
3) You lucked into a very good belt.
4) The alternator tension adjustment is really really tight.
5) All the above.

I suspect (1) and (4).

FWIW the fan speed should go up with engine RPM to ~4K.
Then as the engine revs higher it should hold at ~4K.
If it's only getting up to ~2-3K the fan clutch is worn out and a single belt will work - But you will be overheating soon.

I don't have an e-fan and my fan clutch is fine. The alternator belt tension is tight though as I do have a UR pulley and you need a smaller belt for it which I really made very snug. The car has never gone above 1/4 on the temp gauge, even in very hot weather. the car has gotten warmer than that before (lost a waterpump) so I nkow the gauge works even if it isn't too accurate.
