Dry Ice is a wonderful thing....
Well after searching half the day to find a dry ice vendor in WV. I finally managed to get some from a welding shop. Not sure what they use it for but good enough for me after convincing them to sell it to me (something about hazardous material). It took roughly an hour to remove all sound deadening behind the drivers seats back to the back(including looking and travel time around 5hrs). I also removed the speaker surrounds...spots welds arent much fun at all. The project car keeps getting lighter and closer to finishing every day. Finish up the haltech install tomorrow night hopefully.

If you pack dry ice around the sound deadening you can wait like 20 min and just smack it with a hammer and it comes right out instead of taking 8 hrs scraping it with a putty knife and a heat gun......removes it clean enough to just paint black afterwards. It does a really nice job. I will post pictures after I get it all finished up.

Don't worry 1FastT2.....Im sure I will be asking more questions about engine things. On a good note I plan on stoping by SevenSpeed on the way home from Pittsburgh today so I will actually get to see a real shop for once lol.

When it came time to remove the SDG(sound deadening goo) from my car it was the middle of the winter. I just pushed the car outside and later beat the SDG off with a hammer. Saved money and time.

Would liquid nitrogen work? I don't see why it wouldn't, except maybe too cold? It is -324 F... is I added it slowly enough, and then kept it cold, I could cryo-treat my interior, lol.
seriously, though, can you make it too cold? It is about 210 degress colder...
I have easier access to liquid nitrogen.

Scathcart,
Well just with dry ice it was making alot of popping noises and so forth. I think you would have to use a good bit of liquid nitrogen to make it freeze all the way through. The dry ice you can actually pack around what you need since its just like snow. I doubt you will hurt anything though. The only thing back there is the gas tank/fuel pump. I doubt the metal will shrink enough to break welds or anything but you might not want to do a large section at a time.

Never knew CO2 was considered a "hazardous material", cause that's what "dry ice" is basically is.
Try checking the ice cream shops for this stuff - they usually have it and readily sell it, no problem.  We normally got them from the local Baskin Robbins with very little fuss.

Dairyland, or any of the places where the load up the trucks with milk or any dairy products usually have a handfull to spare, and they will sell it off, like pancakes
