Dropping a 91 turbo motor into an 86 n/a car
Hey I plan on buying a 91 turbo j-spec engine from www.fc3s.org and was wondering if anyone has a good site with a walkthru.. or any pointers for me. Thanks - Chris

it's not worth it, you'll need to find the wire harness and ecu since j-spec ones don't come with them as far as I know, and to stick an 91 into an 86 you also need the whole harness under the dash replaced. you need alot of parts to make it work, not just the engine.
it's so much easier and cheaper to just buy a turbo 2.

Ok now another problem arises
Thanks, I guess I wont be doing that. Now another thing though. I have about $200 dollars right now, and an 86 na that needs to be rebuilt. What is the cheapest way to get a turbo engine into my car, or should i just try to sell my car and buy a TII. I live in lincoln ca which is like 30miles from sac and there arent many places i can just find a TII for cheap. thanks

i know i want to do the same exact thing to my 88 NA and every time i try to ask for help people always seem to be telling me to just buy a TII. anyways I think its a bunch of bull i cant think of any reason why a 13BT wouldnt fit the engine harness on a NA.

then go ahead and try... you need alot of parts to get the turbo engine to run in an N/A, and you should also have the tranny, driveshaft, and rear end, if you want it to last. if you really want to get a turbo engine get a 87-88 then you won't have to change the dash harness, but you still need the ecu and engine harness. if you really want to do it you should really have a turbo car to strip down for parts. like one with a dead body.
by the time you are done you will have wished you bought a turbo car.

The tranny and drive line is more robust on the Turbo...
Do you think people are telling you that because you are the first one to ask...
or maybe people that are telling you that have tried it...
Here is a good list of the needed parts for the conversion:
TII engine complete, with all sensors, throttle body, intercooler, etc.
TII engine wiring harness
TII main dash harness
TII Solenoid resistor
TII ECU
TII instrument cluster is recommended (unless you buy an aftermarket boost gauge).
TII AFM (although I HAVE seen the NA one used...)
TII turbo inlet duct TII pressure sensor/Turbo boost sensor (strut tower)
TII brake booster hose (IMPORTANT!!!)
TII fuel pump or aftermarket pump
TII fuel pump relay OR rewire for constant voltage
Turbo Hood (or front mounted intercooler).
TII downpipe/midpipe or stock precats/cat.
installed front counter balance from NA if you are not changing the driveline.
And parts you should change or will within the first year of driving:
TII clutch slave cylinder
TII flywheel
TII clutch disk
TII pressure plate
TII throwout bearing
TII transmission with starter
TII driveshaft
TII rear differential
TII rear axles
TII halfshafts
So unless you have a vert, or a ton of money and time, its cheaper just to buy a T2 than do the conversion.

Oh and I forgot, you also need the Turbo’s accelerator cable and if you want cruise control you'll need the actuator off the turbo as well
