Driveshaft and u joint

Hey guys,

I found out that my vibrating problem is most likely the driveshaft and u joint.

I was looking at mazdatrix.com and the driveshaft(aftermarket) is 260 dollars and the u joint is like 20. I was looking for one at around 100 bucks or so.

Does anyone know where I can get better prices other than on craigslist?

Thanks

I took mine to a machine shop that replaced the drive shaft side of the yolks-removed the factory ones and welded new yolk halves on. New U joints and put the spline and the part that bolts to the rear end on. Cost $150. and if I ever need to replace the U joints I can.

You'll have a hard time finding a new shaft for $100. But you might be able to get close to that if you find a friendly local driveline shop who can repair your existing shaft.

I recently had a shaft built with new yolks, 3" tube and BIG greasable U-joints for well under $200.

Had the same problem this summer and checked out several shops online that I could get a new DS with replaceable Ujoints. I ordered mine from Drive Shaft Specialists in Texas. They spin balance them and guarantee their work. Got mine within the week and had it on the next weekend. Free shipping and they're in TX instead of California. I think it was around $250 total but have had no problems at all. If I remember Maxdatrix was $265 plus shipping.

Original equipment drive shaft and U-joint is a single assembly. When it goes bad, the drive shaft and the U-joint have to be replaced. You can replace it with an oem assembly or with individual drive shaft and U-joint. The advantage here is, that if it ever goes bad again, you will only have to replace the U-joint, which will be cheaper. First time though, you don't have this option. Happened to me with my '91 S5 N/A.

Read my previous post. I think he used the OEM driveshaft, just removed the u-joints.
