can you open the door at all? If you can, just take the inside panel off and see if maybe the rod didn't pop off or something.

yah i can open my door from the outside , but i cant "unlock" it with my key from the outside, locking mechanisms dont work cuz i can stick my key in there and i cant turn it from left to right or anything like that. but the door handle works fine, i jus have to go through my passenger door to reach over and unlock it.

Ive got the same problem, except I can get in with the key. Its very hard to turn though. Are you sure the lock wasnt changed? Also, try spraying some WD40 in the keyhole and jiggling it around.

hmmm good question?? when i bought the car it had no radio, maybe the last owner got jacked for his radio and he had to replace the lock for damage reasons?? eheh i dunno but how much do actuators cost? planning to get an alarm soon anyways, and also a detachable steering hub to release my steering wheel so they cant "drive off" with my friggin car ahah

Door lock actuators are around $10 each. You would need 2.

Remove the lock cylinder, and spray it full of brake cleaner, then work your key in and out with dry graphite lubricant. Your can normally unstick them.

If you want to solve this problem...its actually pretty simple! do a search on here for the write-up on adjusting the handle tumblers, it will step by step teach you how to align the tumblers for any mazda key. its an easy fix and simple to do. hope that helps.

Another common cause is the little white plastic weather shield in the key slot. It wears in two & gets jammed down in the key slot.
I made a small hook tool from a paper clip & fished out the broken pieces.

mine is the same way. so jerk tried to break in and ended up screwing the lock up so if i lock it I hav eto go the passanger side to get it. I am not going to fix it though because I am going with shaved door handles with actuators

Yes, there was a long thread on this.

If the cylinder is realy the problem, the easiest (cheapest) fix would be to swap the cylinder from passenger door handle to driver's door handle.

You wouldn't be able to unlock the passenger door from outside, but that isn't as embarassing as reaching across to open the driver's door...

theres an easier way to lock it from the outside, lift ur door handle and push the lock down, slam ur door AND THEN REALEASE THE HANDLE after it is shut.
