Dripping Coolant

My 87 NA starting dripping coolent from the driver side of the motor. Have not yet pinpointed the leak. Seems to be a slow leak. I am just praying its only the heater hose or drain plug. If not I guess I will be looking at a rebuild. Weird thing is I have not over heated it.

You should not need to worry about a rebuild because of a leak. Take the car to a shop that tests cooling systems, usually a radiator shop, and have them take a look. There are a few places that coolant can leak from the motor which will only require you to replace a hose. Some of the hoses are in tight locations which might require a little more work, but nothing to difficult. Most of the hoses on these cars that are still stock, are most likely dried up by now and ready to leak. Just keep a close eye on the coolant level and temp guage until you find out where the leak is.

Ok, its a busted hose. Heater hose on the side of the motor going into the firewall. Anyway, no one has the exact hose. I can get a length of hose the same diameter, do you think this will work.

Just buy the hose from a Mazda dealer. Fits perfectly, no hassles. Even has the proper wear insulators at the right spots, and is a high quality hose.

Also replace the hose clamps with modern units while you are there. And be VERY careful not to bend or dent the heater core connection when you remove the old hose.
