Downpipe Temperature

I was curious what the temperature of the physical pipe is on the downpipe at operating temp. Say on the average TII. I'm probably going to measure it myself, I was just wondering if anybody could satisfy my curiousity.

At idle?/At WOT?/At cruising speed? Or at?????????____________________

No. I don't know, It hs to be less than EGT, so that won't do. I've a Fluke meter with a K probe and could take a reading at idle. Any other speed would be too much trouble.

Just idle would be primo when the car is fully warmed up, if you could measure it I'd really appreciate it.

It's 16degrees F today (air temp), so it isn't going to happen today. And the K probe is just good for 500 degrees F. But I'll give it a try soon, but if the temps start shooting close to 500 I'll back off. I don't think the pipe gets that hot at idle IMHO.

I have a raytek laser thermo.... the last time i measure my downpipe temps after a run with the car at idle... the surface temp of the downpipe by the oxegen sensor bung was about 550F.

I have a racingbeat SS downpipe...

You have to remember that the Surface temps of the pipe are going to be VASTLY different from the inner temps where the exhaust gasses are in direct contact..

I have the pipe wrapped with thermotect header wrap now... and that VASTLY improved the underhood temps.. so I couldn't give you an exact nuber with the car warmed up and at idle.

With a RB downpipe and a stock turbo.........car just idling and not rev'd up in any way, the figure was 429.2 F. It's the bottom figure shown in the attached jpg. The other figure is the same probe when put in my mouth just after the exaust reading. It's a bit low I supposes at 95.1

I'd go along with the temp being around 500 degrees at IDLE, give or take some.
