Something that's popular amongst the turbo Ford Falcon and Holden drivers.

Lets just say the average driver will grow very tired of it QUICK.

No! Basically what they are doing is removing the BOV. It talks about it in one of the above linked threads.

Compressor surge = bad!!!! That is what you are hearing!

Actually, that is maybe not the term for it (compressor surge). But what happens is when you close the throttle plates under boost, the boost needs to go somewhere. If you do this mod, it will try to spin the turbo backwards and go out of the filter. Not only can this cause driveability issues, it CAN damage the turbo.

"Flutter is easily achieved by removing the blow off valve, or by adjusting the spring tension on the bov to not open under low boost... the noise is caused by the air being pushed back thru the compressor and being chopped up.. is claimed to be bad for the turbo, but thats debatable, each person has their own opinion on its dangers/whatnot.."

This is a quote from the aussies.

THIS IS BAD!

I think you need to put down your dose pipe and bury the weed; that ain't very good for your car.

why don't you just get an aftermarket blow off valve? better yet, tape a duck call to it, it'll be sweet

You actually want your turbo to make that annoying noise and damage it in the process? You can get a little wistle for your exhaust if you want that sound without tearing your car up.

LMFAO!!!

from what i've heard compressor sure doesn't actually hurt the turbo as bad as you guys claim it to be.. have you guys ACTUALLY had surge for awhile then went to check the turbo?

The main function of the compressor bypass valve is to allow the escape of pressure during the segment of operation when the throttle plate is closed. Without the presence of the valve to allow the pressure to be rerouted, the pressurized air would simply crash into the plate, build up, and eventually be repelled back into the turbo. This strong wave of pressurized air would not only create additional wear on the turbo proper, but also slow and possible stop the action of the turbo altogether.

Yeah, some.

Not every turbo car had a stock bov. IIRC, certain vw and volvo cars didn't come with them.

It is HIGHLY debateable wether or not compressor surge will prematurely kill a turbo or not.
