I want to take off my a/c cooler cuz i dont use the a/c, but looking at the lines in the frount of the car (after takeing off the black covers) i found a canster with the lines running to it is that thing needed? anyone that can help please do thanks

 

The canister is anothe rpart of your a/c syatem, it can be removed along with the condenser.

 

yeah that round thing is a receiver dryer,pitch it also,no removing the condensor that is in front of radiator will not hurt your engine,if the condensor is clogged with road debris,your car may even run a bit cooler to boot!!!

 

Is your a/c system empty? If it has refrigerant in it you will have to take it to a shop to evac the system. If you try to remove any part of the a/c while there is refrigerant in there you might get injured. If your system is empty then you can remove everything real easy. Good luck.

 

Yes there is no coolent in the system what-so-ever what is the best way to get rid of all the a/c lines....

it may take you a couple hours to get the whole sytem out but its worth it. you can gut the black box under the dash (passenger side) and you can remove the unit under the power steering pump (4 bolts and a cable hold it on). the whole system weghs in at about 35 pounds, frees up engine bay room, and keeps the engine a slight bit cooler.

something like 0.12 horsepower... it doesnt "add" horsepower. more like "frees up" horsepower from parasitic drag.

 

when i took out mine, i started on the passenger side of the car with the ac lines that go into the firewall. follow the lines to the front of the car and that is the reciever/dryer. then the condensor. then the compressor which may be a hassle if you still have power steering. then back to the firewall. i did not remove the evaporator(dont quote me on this b/c im not sure if it is called that) but its the unit that is under the dash. i didnt remove it because it links the blower motor to the heater core unit and without it still there, the blower motor will not be able to blow the air out to you vents unless you make a coupler to go across. besides it is not heavy. the main wieght in the a/c is the compressor.

 

unbolt everything you can. the actual AC compressor is kind of a bitch. but bare with it, its not impossible. If you have some tin snips... those are handy assuming you dont plan on keeping any of the AC lines. you can cut a lot of the lines, and make life a lot easier on yourself that way


Horsepower isnt what your looking at by removing all your AC crap. Your looking at a cleaner engine bay, easier to work on more things around the engine bay. more direct airflow to your radiator (that being the biggest + to removing it) and taking out 30somethen pounds out of the car.

Not to mention when your done. you'll feel as though you've accomplished something awesome, especily when your looking at pile of AC crap on the ground

yea if it dont work dump it seriously.. I pulled my lines and compressor in about 30 minutes, I need to pull the condensor and drier yet but I will do that once I swap the radiator out

btw the problem with pulling a line off it the system is charged is because u let the free-on out in the atmosphere I have pulled many charged systems apart and not gotten hurt.. not only that but somewhere in the system there is a valve to let fre-on in well like a sharader valve it will also let it out if u hold it down..

 

just do what i did grab a hack saw chop it in to pieces to give you some room than start un bolting everything. i uhhh got pretty mad takeing mine out

 

weirdos, i'm picking up a TII that i plan on getting A/C and putting it back in . . . i must be dumb >_> (look where i live)

 

maybe you want to sell all your ac stuff. the guy i bought it from lived in the bay area and it didnt get to hot so he took it out. durring the summer its not uncommon to get 105 degree weather. if you want to sell it send me and email to ryanpreusser@mchsi.com and let me know price and cost to ship to 95467. thanx
