door tar.......

it may be a bit before i get the aluminum sheets on my doors. what is a good way of removing that stupid black tar on the doors? i tried goof off and various cleaners to no avail. the only thing i haven't tried is the dry ice trick i used on the sound deadening tar. i just have a feeling that will be harder to pull off on the doors anyway. any ideas? anyone been successful?

you talking about the buytl thatholds on the vapour barrier? or the actual sound deadening paneling on the inside of the door skin?

The Buytl ill come off with silicone wax/grease remover or paint thinner......the sound deadening material will need to be scraped off with elbow grease.

because it's becoming a stripped its racecar. the door panels are already sold. it has a dash, steering wheel, shifter and two seats. the doors are getting aluminum skins, but i don't have 200 to throw on them yet. i just need to get the tar off so i'm not ruining clothes for a month.

Maybe because he's replacing it and the door panels with aluminum? Is that what you are doing?

The best thing for removing that tar seems to be dry ice. Get some at myers if you have that in your area. Just place a block on the tar, wait a few min, then hit it with a soft faced hammer or somthing. The tar will chip right off!

That crap always touches my head at one point or another when I'm working on my door. Not so fun when I go to shower afterwards...

just wanted to post this on the most recent tar thread... about how much dry ice do you need to take out all the sound deadening interior tar? i dont know how fast it "melts", do you need like a 5 gallon bucket of it or just a little chunk?
