Did you hold up the handle when you close the driver's door?

Hold the handle up when shutting it, as far as i can figure its some safety feature so you cant accidently lock your keys in the car, my driver side does it too

As for the fact that you cannot unlock it from the outside passenger, It's either a seized/rusted lock or it's not hooked up somewhere. I just recently had to replace all my door handles and locks on my car and it's actually quite fun to get inside and clean everything up. Try taking your door handle off and the lock mechanism out and taking it to a locksmith type place. They will most likely be able to fix the inside of the lock.

clip may be off on the passenger Side,to the rod that activates the Mechanism..And Yah,you have to Hold the handle UP on the Door While shutting it,when Locking the door,or it just Disengages the lock, and it stays unlocked..
